May 12th, 2011

Things are a little more normal around “the little house in the woods” today. Yesterday was somewhat more chaotic, with Barb having to be in Barrie by 6:00 a.m. in preparation for her hip replacement surgery; that meant a 4:00 a.m. start to the day.

I’m pleased to report that the surgery proceeded without incident and Barb is doing very well. She was able to lift her leg up off the bed yesterday afternoon and says she is pain free; aren’t modern dugs amazing. Today, the physiotherapy team had her out of bed and walking, with the assistance of a walker, on two separate occasions. They also brought a chair into the room that allowed her to sit by the window and read; which she did for about five hours. I suspect they’ll want to discharge her before she takes control of the hospital and explains to them how it should be run.
I received news yesterday that yet another trip to Sudbury is no my horizon. I’m scheduled for a kidney biopsy on May 27th. This isn’t quite what I had in mind as a solution to a minor weight loss program; a diet would have worked just as well as this continuing donation of small pieces of my body parts to medical science. One’s never sure what they may want to remove next.

It's O.K., I already know I'm warped.

See you tomorrow.
