It has been a busy day. I started the day with laps on the back deck, about 40 the first go ‘round and at least 50 more this afternoon. It was much better in the P.M. after the rain ended; Fred Astaire can dance in the rain if he wishes but I prefer to walk in the sunshine.

A good part of the day was spent answering emails and phone calls about the article that appeared in “What’s Up Muskoka”, that hit the streets yesterday, about the appreciation event that took place on March 2. To save some time, if you wish to check it out, go to pages 9 and 25. It was a tribute that was, and still is, greatly appreciated, however way over the top. As a Rotarian, I’ve done so much less than many and, in fact, no more than most.

I didn’t know until the Rotary meeting yesterday morning that people paid to attend the appreciation evening and that there was a surplus of funds; about $1,000.00. I was asked which cause I would like to support and the obvious answer was The Rotary Foundation Polio Plus campaign. To all who attended the evening, thanks for helping our foundation help the world: $1,000 will vaccinate approximately 2,000 children and prevent them from having to go through what Maria, in El Salvador, has experienced. Maria is 25 years old and contracted polio at age 1. The dust you see on her legs is from scootching around on her bum for 24 years. Now she has a wheelchair and for the first time in her life she's been able to, almost, look the rest of the world eye to eye.

Oh, this world is such a great place, in spite of how we humans tend to mess it up. There's so much that we have done; both good and bad, but more importantly so much more good that we can and must do. We are, after all, only custodians of what we will ultimately leave for our children and grandchildren, and their children. Let’s start thinking about being better at what we are supposed to be doing.
